“These motives illustrate, in their state of decay, moments as visionary as they are apocalyptic, moments existing between beauty and horror. Aided by intentionally controlled processes, the slides are the relics of unknown biographies. Various elements are lost, accented, or superimposed – all carried out via mechanical, analog, or biochemical methods. The original photographic grain is lost at the worked-over sites, allowed to reappear as an equally neutralized surface, freed from connotations of degradation, enlarged and reemphasized as a new compositional element.”
